Dr Michael Talbot is a highly experienced General, Upper Gastrointestinal (GI), and Bariatric Surgeon practising at St George Hospital and privately across NSW. Renowned for his expertise in General, Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery, including minimally invasive surgery and robotic treatments.
Dr Talbot graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 1992. Following his early surgical training, he joined the South Eastern Sydney Surgical Training Program in 1996 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. He subsequently completed advanced post-fellowship training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and is also a Fellow of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
A recognised pioneer in Upper GI and bariatric surgery, Dr Talbot performed Australasia’s first robotic bariatric and oesophageal procedures, helping to advance the adoption of robotic surgery throughout the region. He was also among the earliest surgeons to introduce keyhole sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass procedures, therapeutic endoscopy for benign and malignant conditions, and robotic Upper GI surgery using the Da Vinci, Hugo, and single-port platforms.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Talbot was appointed Senior Lecturer in Surgery at UNSW in 2003 and remains committed to innovation, education, and excellence in patient care
