Dr Newcomb completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland, Australia in 1995, subsequently completing his training in centres across Victoria and Queensland. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2007 and a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand in 2009. He also holds professional memberships with the European Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Australia and New Zealand Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
