Dr Naveed Alam

Mr. Naveed Alam is an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon based in Melbourne. He is highly skilled in the treatment of all lung conditions, including Lung Cancer, Mesothelioma, Thymoma, Emphysema, Tracheal tumours, Pectus Excavatum, Tracheal Stenosis, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and Hyperhidrosis. He also has a special interest in Slipping Rib Syndrome and has extensive experience in managing this rare and misuderstood condition.

Mr. Alam specialises in minimally invasive surgical techniques such as VATS and robotic-assisted. He prioritises taking the time to explain treatment options to his patients, and creating a comfortable environment so they can receive the best care.

Mr. Alam obtained his Medical Degree from Queen's University, Canada. He then completed surgical training, and went on to undertake Fellowships at the National Cancer Institute of Canada and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York. Presently, he works with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Asian Thoracoscopic Education Platform to share his expertise by training junior and senior surgeons, both nationally and internationally.

As an active researcher in the field, Mr. Alam has been involved in numerous peer-reviewed publications on Lung Cancer and many other thoracic disorders. He shares this knowledge as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne. He has many professional affiliations, including the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons, The Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, The International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Asia Thoracoscopic Education Program.  He is also a founding fellow of the Asian Board of Thoracic Surgery.
