Dr Amera Halabi is a Consultant Cardiologist at HeartWest in Western Melbourne as well as a PhD Student at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at La Trobe University in 2008 followed by her medical degree at Flinders University in 2011. In 2018 she was awarded her Fellowship (Cardiology) with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Dr Halabi has special interests in heart failure which lead her to undertake research at the Baker Institute surrounding myocardial dysfunction with particular focus on patients with type 2 diabetes and stage B heart failure. She hopes, with the expertise developed from her PhD combined with her previous experience, to become an advanced heart failure specialist.
Alongside her current position at HeartWest, Dr Halabi is also a co-investigator and clinical lead of the LEAVE-DM randomised controlled trial investigating ventricular dysfunction in diabetes mellitus.
