Dr Waqas Gaba

Dr Waqas Gaba is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. He holds dual specialist accreditation in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine and provides assessment and treatment for adults with digestive and liver conditions.

He sees patients with heartburn and acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation and rectal bleeding. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, fatty liver disease and abnormal liver blood tests.

Dr Gaba understands that persistent digestive symptoms can affect everyday life and cause considerable worry. His approach centres on listening carefully, explaining possible causes in clear language and developing an individual plan with each patient. Consultations include discussion of appropriate investigations, treatment options and practical next steps.

He is JAG-certified in gastroscopy and colonoscopy and performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. Where investigations are needed, he explains their purpose and discusses the findings and treatment plan with the patient.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Gaba chairs the upper gastrointestinal multidisciplinary team meeting at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and contributes to medical education, research and improvements in patient care. His work on inflammatory bowel disease services and outcomes following biliary procedures has been presented at national and international gastroenterology meetings.
