Dr Umesh Vivekananda

Dr Umesh Vivekananda is a highly accomplished Consultant Neurologist specialising in complex neurological conditions, with a focus on epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, and brain function. He provides compassionate, evidence-based care to patients experiencing a broad spectrum of neurological challenges, ensuring each individual receives a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and a tailored management plan. Dr Vivekananda completed his initial undergraduate degree in Physics at the University of Oxford before earning his medical degree from King's College London. He completed specialist higher training in clinical neurology and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from University College London for his research on neurological channelopathies. In recognition of his academic and clinical excellence, Dr Vivekananda has received prestigious honours including the Queen Square Prize for Neurology, the Gordon Holmes Prize in Neuroscience, and the International League Against Epilepsy Gowers Clinical Science Prize. He also holds a Wellcome Trust Clinical Career Development Fellowship to support his ongoing clinical research.

In his clinical practice, Dr Vivekananda focuses on diagnosing and managing complex, medication-refractory epilepsy, as well as addressing mood and cognitive co-morbidities associated with neurological conditions, such as depression, memory disruption, and anhedonia. His work incorporates advanced neurophysiological assessment techniques, including electroencephalography, intracranial electroencephalography, and optically pumped magnetoencephalography.
