About Mr Thomas White

Mr Thomas White is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in hip and knee surgery.

He practises at:

  • HCA UK at The Shard
  • London Bridge Hospital
  • The Blackheath Hospital

He graduated from Bristol Medical School in 2005 before undertaking postgraduate study at a number of major London teaching hospitals and completing two globally recognised sub-specialist fellowships in complex hip and knee surgery. The first was as a pelvic and arthroplasty fellow at St Georges Hospital, a leading tertiary referral centre for pelvic trauma and complex revision hip and knee replacements. Following this, he completed the globally recognised Allograft Fellowship in Perth, Australia, where he learned the most recent procedures in primary and revision hip and knee surgery at the state's two busiest orthopaedic hospitals.

On his return to the UK in 2018, Mr White became a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. He quickly built a busy hip and knee arthroplasty practice and is the current lead for revision hip and knee surgery. He frequently works with colleagues from other hospitals in the regional network. He treats complex cases at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, where he was named Honorary Consultant in 2020.

Mr White also has a busy trauma practice at University Hospital Lewisham, where he specialises in complex hip and knee fractures. In 2018, he was named Lead for Clinical Governance, and in 2020, he became the Lead for Trauma.

AI Review Summary

This summary was created by AI based on recent reviews

Mr Thomas White is described as professional, pleasant, and excellent in his patient interactions, explaining procedures and diagnoses, such as total knee replacement and hip replacement. He offers various treatment options and guides patients through pre and post-operative stages, with many reporting successful outcomes and improved mobility. I had three recent hip operations with Mr Thomas White. I was awake under spinal anaesthetic and felt completely safe from the start, as it was clear he was very much in control in the operating theatre. His calm confidence and steady manner put me at ease, especially as I was dealing with a huge personal loss and felt very vulnerable. I am now pain free after suffering from severe debilitating osteoarthritis for many years. He is a brilliant surgeon and I would not hesitate to see him again. I would also wholeheartedly recommend him to my family and friends if the need arises. I will always be grateful for his dedication and everything he has done for me. He has changed my life.

I learnt 50pct of information regarding my diagnosis through questions rather than having it explained in full straight off. Perhaps he assumed I had more medical knowledge than I do. He was very pleasant though.

Mr Thomas was very professional throughout my journey to have a total knee replacement. In the early consultations he explained clearly the results from the scans, gave various options and when I decided to go ahead with the procedure the process and what to expect was clearly explained. I am really happy with the outcome of the knee replacement and would recommend Mr White to anyone who has a knee problem.

A reassuring and knowledgeable professional throughout. Mr White answered all my questions at every stage and guided me through my hip replacement process. I was anxious initially but felt I was in capable hands which was demonstrated at every stage of pre and post operation. By the time of the operation I knew what to expect and was confident in the procedure. I am extremely pleased with the result. I have mobility and strength back that is thought I’d lost.

Had two visits one for the initial consultation and then the second to review an MRI that was recommended which resulted in me being discharged to a physio - however been waiting for two weeks now to get the referral letter with findings from the MRI for the Physio ! Keen to get on with my treatment and getting delayed here for no apparent reason.
