Sven Putnis is a Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant Knee Surgeon. His private practice is solely focused on the treatment of knee injuries and painful knee conditions.
It is vital that knee injuries or new unexplained knee pain or swelling is diagnosed as soon as possible. Rapid access to imaging followed by a variety of management options will optimise your ability to return to work and sport efficiently.
Injuries that require surgery can often be performed arthroscopically (via keyhole). This allows a full evaluation of the entire joint and the ability to repair meniscal or cartilage damage. Sven Putnis has a specific interest in reconstructive surgery for ruptured ligaments, with a particular emphasis on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, and a tailored and accelerated return to sport programme.
Painful knee conditions such as arthritis will hold you back from the activities that you love in life. There are treatment options for pain, swelling, instability and stiffness that can start to work immediately. If you are coping with painful joint damage, joint preservation surgery can help. This could be combined arthroscopic surgery with realignment, aiming at slowing down the progression of joint damage. In more advanced cases, a compartment-specific partial knee replacement could be offered.
A total knee replacement will resolve the pain from global knee arthritis, and computrer and robotic guided surgery is available for precision results.
If you have already had a knee replacement and it is causing a problem, there are ways of helping here too.
After completing training programmes and international fellowships, Sven Putnis became an NHS Consultant in Bristol in 2019. He is always looking at new research and procedures that could help treat knee problems. He reviews new articles for the highest ranked Orthopaedic journals. With over 60 peer-reviewed research publications of his own, and work with international research groups, he is ahead of the curve.
Whether you are a professional athlete needing to return to the same high level of sports, or want to return to comfortable day-to-day activities; every patient recieves a tailor-made programme to return to your chosen level of activity.
Sven will carefully explain your diagnosis and give you management choices with an evidence-based approach. Providing effective treatments to consistently achieve fantastic outcomes, and lovely patient reviews. Thank-you.

He was happy in the results of the operation, So am I, he is a very nice gentleman and explained what and why what he did
I had a total knee replacement 12 months ago. I say thank you to the whole team from the receptionists to the surgical and post op teams. They made me feel very safe. The anaesthetist allayed my fears of years, about having a blocker, for which I'm very grateful. The surgery was very successful and I am out of pain for the first time in forty years. Mr. Putnis is very a cheerful and positive person, which is an added bonus.
I had appointment with you following my knee injury I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the time and care you took during the appointments Your thorough assessment and clear explanations helped me better understand my condition and the next steps in my treatment I truly appreciate your professionalism, and the way you addressed all my questions. It has given me great confidence moving forward. Thank you again for your dedication and support.
Initially I was very frustrated having waited for an hour even though I had a 9.20am appointment. I have never experienced an appointment without this annoying delay. However, once I got to meet with Mr Putnis he made all my frustrations disappear. He was so friendly and interested in my wellbeing and proceeded to explain the reasons for my pain. Following on he offered a procedure to cure the problem with enthusiasm and reassured me of a successful outcome. Thank you so much, I am very pleased with the plan moving forward.
Mr Putnis was well prepared for the consultation. He was businesslike but had time to listen to my concerns. His advice was clear and appropriate to my situation.
