Dr. Susanna Boytha

Mrs Susanna Boytha is a consultant ophthalmologist and specialist eye surgeon with extensive clinical expertise across corneal surgery, cataract procedures, medical retina, and laser refractive surgery. She holds dual Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees from Semmelweis University of General Medicine and the University of Medicine and Surgery of Genoa. She completed her Diploma in Ophthalmology in 1990, gained Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (MRCOphth) in 2001, and obtained her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Ophthalmology in 2005.

Her surgical practice encompasses advanced laser vision correction, having performed over 35,000 LASIK and LASEK procedures since 2003, alongside cataract surgery and medical retina management for chronic macular and retinal conditions. Following her relocation to the UK in 1998, she completed a clinical fellowship in Cornea and Cataract Surgery at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, and later gained her Certificate of Laser Refractive Surgery (Cert LRS) in 2008.

A clinical leader and medical educator, Mrs Boytha serves as Consultant Ophthalmologist and Lead Clinician of the Medical Retina Service at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. She is a Scottish Quality and Safety Fellow who has led service development initiatives across ophthalmic care, while actively educating medical students, junior ophthalmologists, optometrists, and ophthalmic nurses.
