Dr Susan Deakin

Dr Susan Deakin is a highly dedicated Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who provides compassionate, comprehensive care for patients experiencing a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. With a patient-centred approach, Dr Deakin focuses on clear communication, thoughtful treatment planning, and personalised surgical care. She is committed to improving patient mobility, alleviating pain, and supporting individuals throughout their surgical journey and recovery.

Her clinical practice encompasses both elective orthopaedic procedures and acute emergency trauma care. Dr Deakin holds specialist expertise in paediatric orthopaedics, offering tailored management for children and young people with bone, joint, and growth conditions. In addition, she specialises in foot and ankle surgery, addressing complex anatomical issues, deformities, and lower limb injuries. Beyond her clinical work, Dr Deakin is a prominent advocate for human factors and patient safety in healthcare, working to continuously enhance standards of clinical care and surgical team communication.

Dr Deakin completed her medical degree at Newcastle University, graduating in 1990. She subsequently completed basic surgical training and an extensive Specialist Registrar rotation, followed by advanced postgraduate fellowships in paediatric orthopaedics and foot and ankle surgery. She maintains active involvement in professional governance and professional development, holding memberships with the British Orthopaedic Association, serving in executive leadership within AO UK and Ireland, and acting as a Trustee for the Clinical Human Factors Group.
