About Mr Surendra Patnaik
Mr Surendra Patnaik is a highly experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with over seven years of specialist practice, renowned for his expertise in shoulder, elbow and soft-tissue knee surgery. He is skilled in both keyhole and open surgical techniques and has particular proficiency in shoulder reconstruction and joint replacement, as well as the management of complex soft-tissue injuries of the knee.
Having completed advanced fellowships with leading upper-limb surgeons across Southeast England, Mr Patnaik has developed a comprehensive surgical skill set. Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 2,500 shoulder and elbow operations—including arthroscopic procedures, ligament repairs and major reconstructions—and over 1,000 knee arthroscopies, covering meniscal surgery, ligament reconstruction and a wide range of other interventions.
In his NHS role, Mr Patnaik plays a key role in the management of complex upper-limb and sports-related knee injuries, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver individualised, evidence-based care. He also leads his department’s infection control and Healthcare-Associated Infection (HCAI) programme, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Patnaik is dedicated to developing future generations of orthopaedic surgeons. As an Educational Supervisor, he provides ongoing mentorship, training and support to orthopaedic trainees, helping them build confidence and clinical expertise.

Signed off four months after successful left shoulder reverse glenohumeral arthroplasty, game-changing pain relief and enhanced mobility, Mr Patnaik’s skill and dedication has improved my quality of life immeasurably.
Suffered a dislocated shoulder and subsequently a couple of instances of subluxation. Had seen a physio over several months but things weren’t improving. Following an appointment with Mr Patnaik I had an MRI scan which showed a fracture. A CT scan was then carried out to show the depth of the fracture.
He’s fixed all my ligaments in my knee and it was a bad accident but because of him I’m now back on my feet more confident in walking and will definitely be able to run very soon all thanks to Dr Patnaik
I had an ACL reconstruction surgery performed by Dr Patnaik..the procedure and recovery was clearly explained to me and I was as prepared as I could be by Dr Patnaik. Dr Patnaik also offered me timely and good post surgery care and the communication with him via his very helpful assistant was great.
From the first consultation with Mr Patniak I felt comfortable in his care. He explained the next few steps in my procedure clearly. Once I had all the relevant scans and x-rays I had a consultation with him and he explained how he would use the information from these tests to use for my operation ( augmented reality). After my operation he made it clear he was available if needed. My recovery has been very positive and scar healing well. I will need a right shoulder replacement in the future and more than happy for Mr Patniak to proceed with this.
It was excellent Mr Patnaik talked to me and explained how the operation went well.
Mr Patnaik has been great in helping guide my decision making with my shoulder rehab.
