About Mr Jay Watson
Mr Jay Watson is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in lower limb surgery at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, based at East Surrey Hospital. He has extensive experience in the assessment and management of hip and knee conditions, including lower limb arthroplasty, soft tissue knee injuries and orthopaedic trauma.
Mr Watson graduated in Medicine from The University of Sheffield in 2009 and also completed an intercalated Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree focused on microcirculation in sepsis. He later undertook a Master of Science in Surgical Science and Practice at University of Oxford between 2015 and 2017. In 2021, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
He completed higher orthopaedic surgical training within the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery before undertaking advanced fellowship training in lower limb arthroplasty at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, followed by a Soft Tissue Knee Fellowship at Salford Royal Foundation Trust.
Mr Watson is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care, with a focus on restoring mobility, reducing pain and supporting patients in returning to their desired level of activity and quality of life.

Very professional, easy to understand and explains everything clearly
When you finally get to see a consultant, it is a breath of fresh air to be under the care of Mr Watson. From the initial consultation with regard to my hip, everything was explained in simple terms and Mr Watson patiently explained the options available.. My operation went to plan and Mr Watson could not have been more reassuring. My recovery went very well and I am extremely pleased with the result. My follow up appointment was short and sweet and I am so pleased to be pain free and return to my normal activities. I cannot recommend Mr Watson enough for his skills both surgically and in the consultation room.
I cannot recommend Jay Watson highly enough. His friendly and professional manners immediately instilled confidence in me, and throughout the pre and post operation periods. My operation ( full hip replacement) went very smoothly and has transformed my life after very many years of chronic pain. Jay's follow up work has been excellent and he has also been extremely helpful when my son also saw him with a hip related condition. He is a consummate professional and a great human being.

From first initial contact for hip replacement through to my recent check up appointment Jay has been brilliant a fantastic surgeon. I would highly recommend Jay and if I ever need another replacement I’d request Jay.
