Dr Sunil Kumar Sampath

Dr Sunil Kumar Sampath is a highly qualified Consultant Paediatrician specialising in Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology. He is dedicated to delivering compassionate, comprehensive care to infants, children, and young adults facing inflammatory, autoimmune, and musculoskeletal conditions. Dr Sampath adopts a reassuring, patient-centred approach, ensuring that young people and their families feel fully informed, supported, and confident throughout their healthcare journey.

Dr Sampath completed his primary medical qualification (MBBS) before undertaking specialist training in General Paediatrics within the Mersey deanery. He subsequently completed higher sub-speciality training in Paediatric Rheumatology. Alongside his clinical development, he was awarded a prestigious National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Unit Fellowship and an Arthritis Research UK Clinical Research Fellowship, culminating in a PhD in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis from the University of Manchester. He is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) and maintains active memberships with professional bodies, including the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology and the National Paediatric Scleroderma Topic Specific Group.

In his clinical practice, Dr Sampath evaluates and manages a wide spectrum of paediatric rheumatic diseases. His areas of clinical expertise include Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Paediatric Scleroderma, Juvenile Dermatomyositis, and Juvenile Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Working closely as part of a multidisciplinary team, he integrates evidence-based medicine with innovative solutions, including digital health tools, to optimise treatment pathways and improve access to complex medications for young patients.

Dr Sampath remains actively involved in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance paediatric rheumatology care.
