Mr Sumit Sood

Mr Sumit Sood is a Consultant General Surgeon and Consultant Colorectal Surgeon who provides comprehensive diagnostic and surgical care for patients presenting with abdominal, intestinal, and perianal conditions. Known for his compassionate, patient-centred approach, he prioritises shared decision-making to ensure every individual receives a bespoke treatment plan tailored to their specific healthcare needs. Mr Sood maintains a dedicated focus on clinical safety, high-quality surgical outcomes, and evidence-based treatment methods.

In his clinical practice, Mr Sood manages a broad spectrum of general surgical and colorectal conditions. His areas of expertise include the surgical repair of abdominal wall hernias using both open and minimally invasive keyhole techniques, as well as gallbladder surgery and general abdominal interventions. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, alongside the investigation and surgical management of colorectal cancer. Additionally, Mr Sood offers specialised care for benign perianal conditions, including haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulae, and skin tags.

Mr Sood qualified in medicine with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Calcutta in 1997. He subsequently completed a Master of Surgery (MS) degree in General Surgery, followed by a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) from the University of Sheffield. He holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in General Surgery with a sub-speciality focus in Colorectal Surgery. Mr Sood is an active member of professional medical organisations, including The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI), and is actively involved in clinical governance, quality improvement, and medical education.
