Dr Sophie Bertaud

Dr Sophie Bertaud is a highly dedicated Paediatrician and Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine who specialises in providing compassionate, family-centred care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. With a deep clinical focus on perinatal and neonatal palliative care, she is committed to supporting families through some of the most challenging times of their lives. Her clinical practice is characterised by a holistic approach that prioritises the physical, emotional, and ethical dimensions of paediatric care, ensuring that every young patient receives tailored and reassuring support.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Bertaud is an accomplished researcher with a particular interest in paediatric medical ethics and clinical decision-making. Her academic work explores the complex ethical considerations surrounding antenatal and perinatal palliative care, as well as the doctor-patient relationship in neonatal and paediatric cardiology settings. As a Senior Clinical Research Fellow, she actively contributes to the development of national frameworks and clinical guidelines, helping to shape the future of paediatric palliative medicine and improve communication within neonatal units.

Dr Bertaud completed her medical training at University College London, qualifying with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology with Medical Sciences in 2006 and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 2009. She subsequently earned a Master of Arts in Bioethics from New York University in 2012, supported by a prestigious Fulbright scholarship. During her paediatric training, she also held an Academic Clinical Fellowship at King's College London. Dr Bertaud is an active member of several professional bodies, serving as the Perinatal Co-Chair for the Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine and contributing to the British Association of Perinatal Medicine.
