It was my 6 week check up and my visit to the orthopaedic department at Epsom hospital was exceptional. On arrival X-rays were taken and immediately thereafter I met with Mr Yousaf. He explained that he’d successfully removed the lump that was causing me so much pain in my little toe and he’d been able to correct my bunion. I was shown the X-rays of before and after surgery. He gave me clear instructions on the aftercare once at home and I had all my queries answered. I am happy to say I feel I received first class care from Mr Yousaf and his team.

This study underlines the importance of taking preoperative expectations into account to obtain an informed choice on the basis of the patient's preferences. Patients' pre-operative expectations of surgical outcome exceed their functional achievement but satisfaction remains high if pain control and ability to walk unaided is achieved early after hallux valgus corrective surgery.
