About Mr Simon Palmer

Mr Simon Palmer is an Orthopaedic consultant, with British & Specialist Australian expertise in surgery of the lower limb, this includes foot and ankle surgery as well as knee surgery. He is also world-renowned in the field of trauma and sports injuries. He works and lives in West Sussex.

Initially trained in London at St Mary's Hospital and The Hammersmith Hospital in the surgical training. In 1994 he was made a fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England; he then accepted a research fellowship in Orthopaedics and Trauma at Bath University. Having completed a six-year specialist registrar training in orthopaedics and trauma in Oxford, working at the John Radcliffe Hospital Trauma and at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust, Mr Palmer obtained the intercollegiate speciality examination.

Mr Palmer currently works as a Sussex Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Worthing, Shoreham, Chichester and Goring Hall hospitals as well as a part-time contract at the Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre in Haywards Heath. Mr Palmer used to work as a Consultant in orthopaedic surgery at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust in Oxford.

As well as teaching at Brighton and Sussex Medical school, Mr Palmer has also trained surgeons and surgical podiatrists in foot surgery. Mr Palmer developed his speciality in surgery of the foot, ankle and knee as a fellow of the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic Australia. During this time, he also developed an interest in sports medicine and sports injuries. He has an MSc in Sports Medicine from the University of Bath and is on the Faculty of Sports Medicine of the Royal College of Surgeons. Mr Palmer also has keen research interest and has published and presented papers worldwide. His current interests include cartilage transplantation, minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery (including minimally invasive bunion surgery) and knee and ankle joint replacement. He also has a medico-legal practice that is very busy and teaches at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
