Dr. Shruthi Konda

Shruthi Konda is a Consultant Respiratory Physician trained at Imperial College London, with specialist expertise in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine. Appointed as a consultant in 2017, she is based at the Royal Brompton Hospital, a nationally recognised centre of excellence for respiratory care in the UK.

Dr Konda has broad experience across all aspects of respiratory medicine, with particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders and complex conditions such as advanced lung disease and neuromuscular disorders leading to respiratory failure. Her clinical work includes managing conditions such as emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep-disordered breathing, obstructive sleep apnoea, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, respiratory failure, and persistent symptoms such as breathlessness and chronic cough. She is also highly experienced in investigations including lung function testing, imaging, and sleep studies, as well as treatments such as CPAP and non-invasive ventilation.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Konda has demonstrated strong leadership and innovation, having successfully established a respiratory high dependency unit from concept through to completion prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also a respected medical educator and examiner, serving as a national and international MRCP PACES examiner for the Royal College of Physicians. In her role as Linacre Fellow, she supports College Tutors and Associate College Tutors across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Her commitment to education extends internationally, including work as an external reviewer for internal medicine training programmes in Kerala, India. She has also contributed significantly to sleep medicine education as an educational lead for the British Sleep Society and has been elected by her peers to represent sleep research and education at a European level through the European Sleep Research Society.

Dr Konda remains actively involved in organising, speaking at, and chairing national and international conferences.
