Dr Shankaralingaiah Nethra

Dr Shankaralingaiah Nethra is a highly experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 21 years’ expertise in women’s health. She currently works at East Lancashire NHS Trust and also practises at Care Fertility Cheshire, where she specialises in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatments.

Dr Nethra has extensive experience across a wide range of gynaecological and reproductive conditions, including infertility management, menstrual disorders, fibroids, pelvic pain and menopause care. She is widely recognised for her leadership in clinical effectiveness and has a strong commitment to education, quality improvement and service development.

She holds an MBBS and MRCOG, along with additional certifications in fertility, menopause management and hysteroscopy. Dr Nethra remains at the forefront of her field by regularly attending national and international conferences, engaging with current research and reviewing emerging evidence to inform best clinical practice.

Her academic contributions include co-authoring research on endometrial scratching in unexplained infertility, published in Fertility and Sterility. She has also served as Principal Investigator for major clinical trials, including the POISE, CERM and LOCI trials, and remains actively involved in recruiting patients into research studies.

Alongside her clinical and research roles, Dr Nethra is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor with a particular interest in simulation-based training for undergraduate medical students. She also works as an appraiser, supporting colleagues through the appraisal process and submitting reports to the Trust board.
