Dr Sarah Hearnshaw

Dr Sarah Hearnshaw is a Consultant Gastroenterologist dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals experiencing a wide range of digestive health conditions. With a compassionate and objective approach, Dr Hearnshaw works closely with patients to ensure accurate diagnostic evaluations, clear treatment pathways, and ongoing clinical support. Her practice is focused on improving patient outcomes and overall quality of life through modern, evidence-based care.

Dr Hearnshaw has a strong clinical focus on acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding and the management of associated blood transfusions. Her clinical expertise also encompasses the diagnosis and ongoing management of long-term digestive disorders, including inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and coeliac disease. In addition to delivering routine care and diagnostic endoscopy, Dr Hearnshaw remains actively engaged in clinical research aimed at refining treatment protocols and improving standards of care in digestive medicine.

Dr Hearnshaw completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in Newcastle. Following her initial training, she spent two years conducting specialised clinical research in Oxford, where she focused on national audits of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding and transfusion strategies. She was officially appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2012 and continues to participate in research alongside her clinical duties.
