Dr Sanem Atakan

Dr. Sanem Atakan is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at University Hospital Lewisham. Sr. Atakan specialises in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology, Menopause, Early Pregnancy, Benign Gynaecological Conditions, Menstrual Disorders, Contraception, and Gynaecological Endocrine Disorders.

She gained her medical degree with Distinction in 2007 from King's College London. She also holds a BSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Bristol.

Dr. Atakan holds twice-monthly menopause clinics, an adolescent gynaecology clinic, a recurrent miscarriage clinic, and a one-stop gynaecology clinic. In obstetrics, her duties include labour ward on call, hypertension and diabetes antenatal clinics, post-natal debriefing clinics, antenatal ward rounds, and elective caesareans.

She is an expert in her field and has delivered international and regional presentations on different topics. In addition to her busy clinical work, Dr. Atakan also is involved in the teaching of postgraduates and undergraduates in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr. Atakan is known for her gentle and compassionate approach to her patients, using her expertise and empathetic nature to put patients at ease and feel confident in her treatment plans. In her recent years, she has been working as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington where she established and led a Perineal and Post-Partum Clinic, including birth trauma.

Outside of work, her hobbies include cooking, reading, music, and travelling.
