Mr Robert Barry

Mr Robert Barry is a highly regarded Consultant Ophthalmologist and Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology who specialises in the diagnosis and management of complex eye conditions. With a dedicated focus on ocular inflammatory diseases, he provides expert care for patients experiencing a wide range of challenging ophthalmic issues. His clinical practice is centred on delivering reassuring, patient-focused care, ensuring that individuals receive precise diagnoses and tailored treatment plans to protect and preserve their vision.

His primary areas of clinical expertise lie in the field of ocular immunology and inflammatory eye diseases. Mr Barry has a particular interest in managing conditions that affect both the intra-ocular microenvironment and the ocular surface, including uveitis, keratitis, and scleritis. Through his extensive clinical work and research, he remains at the forefront of modern ophthalmic advancements, utilising evidence-based approaches to treat complex inflammatory disorders and prevent potential sight loss for his patients.

Mr Barry completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Birmingham, graduating with honours with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 2007, alongside a first-class honours Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSc) degree. He subsequently undertook specialist clinical training in ophthalmology and was awarded a PhD in Immunology in 2016 for his research into ocular immune responses. Committed to professional excellence and education, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2017 and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2018, following the completion of a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education.
