Dr Richard Chavasse

Dr Richard Chavasse is a dedicated Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician specialising in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of chest and breathing disorders in infants, children, and young people. Focused on delivering holistic and patient-centred care, he works closely with families to manage both acute and complex chronic respiratory conditions. His clinical practice provides comprehensive support designed to improve quality of life and respiratory outcomes for paediatric patients.

In his clinical work, Dr Chavasse holds particular expertise in the management of childhood asthma and recurrent viral wheeze. His areas of clinical interest include chronic cough, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, sleep-disordered breathing, chronic lung disease of prematurity, and congenital thoracic malformations. He also specialises in supporting children who require long-term ventilation and collaborates within multidisciplinary settings alongside specialist teams in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care, neonatology, and neurodevelopmental paediatrics.

Dr Chavasse qualified in medicine from the University of Southampton in 1990. He subsequently earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of London in 2003, with research examining the assessment and treatment of wheeze in early life. He completed postgraduate specialist training in Paediatrics across leading UK teaching hospitals and undertook a specialist fellowship in neonatology in Melbourne, Australia. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) and a Member of the British Paediatric Respiratory Society. Additionally, he contributes to national clinical practice as a member of the BTS/SIGN asthma guideline working group for acute paediatric asthma management and serves on medical advisory committees for children's health charities.
