Mr Ravi De Silva

Mr. De Silva is an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon. He is currently practising at Royal Papworth Hospital after practising as a consultant at Oxford University Hospital for four years. Having spent six years training at Papworth earlier in his career, Mr. De Silva returned to a familiar and comfortable environment where he could pursue his clinical and research interests with passion.

His expertise in adult cardiac surgery is complemented by a particular focus on surgery of the aorta, minimal access surgery, aortic valve repair surgery, and hybrid and off-pump revascularisation.

Mr. De Silva's dedication to education and training is evident through his role as the Director of the East of England cardiothoracic training programme since 2019. Under his leadership, this program has been recognised as the best surgical training program in the UK for the last three years.

In addition to his clinical work and educational leadership, Mr. De Silva has made significant contributions to research. His research interests include investigating the inflammatory effects of cardiopulmonary bypass, studying the pathogenesis of nitric oxide in cardiovascular disease, and exploring safety measures in cardiac surgery. His research has been widely published.
