Dr Rajib Samanta is an experienced Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Dementech Neurosciences, Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital and Spire Leicester Hospital. He specialises in addressing various neurological conditions in children up to the age of 18. His expertise includes: epilepsy, movement disorders, strokes in children, cerebral palsy, headaches, tension headaches, neurodevelopmental issues, neuromuscular and neuro-metabolic disorders, neuro-ophthalmological conditions, and neurogenetic disorders.
Dr Samanta completed his medical degree in Calcutta, India in 1992 followed by his training in child health in India. He later relocated to the UK and gained specialised expertise in paediatrics from the North London Deanery. His focus on paediatric neurology led him to undergo additional training at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Dr Samanta holds professional memberships with the British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA), the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) British Chapter, Epilepsy Action UK, and TREAT-NMD, with a specific emphasis on neuromuscular disorders. Additionally, he holds a diploma in EEG interpretation from the European Epilepsy Academy (EUREPA – Germany).
Dr Samanta contributes to the field through teaching and examination. For the past five years, he has served as an examiner for the clinical exams of MRCPCH & Diploma in Child Health (DCH) and has hosted MRCPCH examinations at his home centre. Engaging in teaching and examination activities at Leicester Medical School, he also acts as an educational supervisor for paediatric trainees under RCPCH and Foundation year trainees under Health Education England Midlands (HEEM) at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
