Dr Francesco Manfredonia is a Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Neurophysiologist with over 17 years of experience in the diagnosis and management of complex neurological conditions. Since 2017, he has served as Clinical Director of the Neurology and Neurophysiology Department at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. Trained in both Italy and the UK, he holds Specialist Register status and is licensed to practise in both countries.
Alongside his established clinical practice, Dr Manfredonia is a trainee analytic psychotherapist at the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy. He is deeply committed to understanding and addressing the interface between mind and body, with a particular interest in how psychological processes influence neurological symptoms and chronic illness. His ongoing psychotherapy training reflects his strong dedication to lifelong learning and his belief that integrating psychological insight into neurological care can enhance recovery, treatment adherence, and overall wellbeing.
His clinical expertise includes the management of epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, headache syndromes, peripheral nerve and muscle diseases, multiple sclerosis, dizziness, and cognitive impairment. He is highly skilled in neurophysiological testing—including nerve conduction studies, needle electromyography (EMG), and EEG interpretation—which supports precise diagnosis of neuromuscular and cerebral function.
Dr Manfredonia is passionate about delivering holistic, patient-centred care. He is particularly focused on the psychological wellbeing of his patients, recognising its pivotal role in shaping physical health outcomes. He actively works to bridge the gap between neurology and psychological medicine, with a view to promoting resilience, reducing symptom burden, and improving quality of life in patients with functional and organic neurological conditions.
In his leadership role, he has pioneered service developments such as a streamlined, multidisciplinary ‘one-stop’ model for epilepsy and first seizure management. He also contributes to research, teaching, and clinical service redesign, driven by a commitment to compassionate, innovative, and integrative care.

Good clear communication, Put my mind at ease, very professional
I have seen Dr Manfredonia 3 times and can highly recommend him for his immense knowledge, experience and professionalism. He was able to analyse the problem quickly, making me feel listened to throughout. As he is a consultant neurophysiologist as well as a consult neurologist he was able to perform and interpret the nerve conduction studies and EMG himself. Having felt in despair that no one could understand the complex multi-system symptoms for over a decade, he made me feel listened to in a sincere and friendly way and heading towards a diagnosis that made sense. Absolutely brilliant Doctor. Thank you.
Only slight problem was that the phone line not terribly clear.
I had an EMG which is the third one in my life and this was by far the most gentle. It was no where near as painful, he was understanding of what I'm able to do with my muscle wastage so I'm very pleased with the experience. Thank you.
Extremely pleasant and professional, explained everything to me so that I understood all the way through consultation.
Dr Francesco Manfredonia was very polite, professional very patient with my needs. A delight to see a consultant who really listens to your concerns and takes time and care during the appointment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Manfredonia for anyone looking for a respectable and experienced neurologist/neurophysiologist.
Told fully about the investigation and what was happening. Was reminded to tell them if it was too painful at any time and I needed them to stop. I was kept reassured.
Dr Manfredonia put me at ease. Was very professional and knowledgeable about my condition.
Professional caring & very helpful with advice also supportive with my condition it was a pleasure to visit him.
I have known Dr Manfredonia since we trained together at medical school. He is a highly experienced and knowledgeable neurologist, as well as a genuinely kind, empathetic and supportive person. He has an understanding and thoughtful manner, and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to patients seeking expert neurological care.
