Dr Rachael Mitchell

Dr Rachael Mitchell is a dedicated Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine who provides compassionate, expert care to infants, children, and young people. Operating at the frontline of urgent and emergency medical services, Dr Mitchell is deeply committed to delivering rapid, high-quality clinical assessments and tailored management for young patients facing acute health conditions. Her reassuring clinical approach ensures that children and their families receive supportive, family-centred care during challenging medical situations.

Her clinical practice encompasses a wide spectrum of acute paediatric presentations, ranging from sudden childhood illnesses to major paediatric trauma and the management of children with complex care needs. Dr Mitchell has played a prominent role in developing national standards for paediatric assessment units and emergency care pathways, co-authoring key resources aimed at improving acute care for young patients. Alongside her clinical work, she is a passionate educator who serves as an Education Lead and Undergraduate Child Health Lead, guiding medical students and trainees in acute paediatric medicine.

Dr Mitchell completed her higher education at the University of Cambridge, earning a Master of Arts degree, and went on to achieve Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). During her postgraduate clinical training, she completed a Darzi Fellowship focused on clinical leadership and improving acute care pathways for children and young people. She is an active committee member and Events Officer for the Association of Paediatric Emergency Medicine (APEM) and maintains active professional involvement with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM).
