Mr R A Harrad

Mr Richard A. Harrad is a highly accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist who specialises in strabismus and oculoplastic surgery. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, he provides expert care for both adult and paediatric patients experiencing complex eye conditions. His clinical focus encompasses the management of strabismus (squints), double vision, amblyopia (lazy eye), and thyroid eye disease, alongside a comprehensive range of eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital disorders.

He completed his advanced ophthalmic training at a world-renowned eye hospital in London, followed by prestigious fellowships in San Francisco, where he refined his expertise in strabismus and oculoplastics. Throughout his career, Mr Harrad has held significant leadership roles, including serving as the Clinical Director of a major ophthalmic hospital in Bristol and chairing the UK Ophthalmology Clinical Leads Forum. He also contributes to the academic advancement of his field as an Honorary Reader in Clinical Sciences at a prominent local university, where he engages in research on amblyopia, ptosis, and binocular vision.

Mr Harrad began his medical journey at the University of Cambridge, where he earned his Master of Arts, before completing his medical degrees at the University of London. He holds several prestigious postgraduate qualifications, including membership of the Royal College of Physicians and fellowships with both the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Additionally, he is an active member of professional bodies such as the British and Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association and the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society.
