About Professor Toby Maher

Professor Toby Maher studied at the University of Southampton's School of Medicine.

Following his initial medical training, he trained in respiratory medicine at Royal Brompton Hospital, the transplant unit at Harefield Hospital and at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. During his training, he gained a master's (MSc) in respiratory medicine at Imperial College London.

In 2005, Professor Maher was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship. This enabled him to study the molecular mechanisms involved in the development of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He did this research at the centre for respiratory research at University College London and it culminated in the award of a PhD.

Professor Toby Maher was formerly a consultant respiratory physician at Royal Brompton Hospital and is an Honorary professor of Interstitial Lung Disease at Imperial College, London. .
