I went to Professor Olaf Wendler for a second opinion after being diagnosed with a life-threatening 9 cm aortic aneurysm, complicated by aortic dissection and severe aortic valve regurgitation due to a bicuspid valve. My wife and I were extremely impressed by how prepared he was for our consultation. He had clearly taken the time to review all my history and scans in detail and, most critically, was able to offer me a surgery date within just 6 days of our consultation. In a situation where time is everything, this made an enormous difference. From the very first meeting, Professor Wendler gave me an immense sense of trust. He explained my condition clearly, encouraged us to ask questions, and was never condescending. He helped us understand exactly what needed to be done and why. He was very confident about my outcomes, and that immediately put us at ease. His precision, experience, and leadership gave me enormous confidence going into the operation. In February 2026, he performed my aortic graft surgery along with a mechanical valve replacement, using a minimally invasive sternotomy with my recovery in mind.
