Professor Mark O'Donnell

Professor Mark O’Donnell is a highly accomplished Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon with extensive experience across both NHS and private healthcare sectors. His practice encompasses the full spectrum of arterial, venous, and lymphatic disease, including minimally invasive endovenous treatments such as radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy, and microsclerotherapy, as well as complex and recurrent varicose vein surgery. He provides consultations and treatment across multiple private hospitals in Northern Ireland, including Kingsbridge Private Hospital, Kingsbridge North West, Ulster Independent Clinic, and The Newry Clinic.

A graduate of Queen’s University Belfast with distinction, Professor O’Donnell completed his surgical training through the Northern Ireland Surgical Training Rotation, followed by a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, USA, where he was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery. He achieved the UEMS Vascular Gold Medal for first place in the European Board of Vascular Surgery Examination and holds a Medical Doctorate and Master of Medical Science in Education.

Professor O’Donnell has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, presented internationally, and remains actively involved in academic research, simulation training, and education. A Visiting Professor at Ulster University, he lectures widely and contributes to healthcare quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme.

His private practice reflects his enduring commitment to high-quality, patient-focused care, recognised by awards including Doctify’s 2023 Healthcare Professional of the Year (Patient Voice Award) and 2024 Endovascular Surgeon of the Year (Belfast).
