Dr Nikola Henderson

Dr Nikola Henderson is an accomplished Consultant General Surgeon and Consultant Colorectal Surgeon who is dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centred surgical care. Specialising in both elective and emergency interventions, she focuses on providing evidence-based surgical treatments while ensuring that patients feel supported, well-informed, and empowered to make decisions about their health.

Her clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of general and lower gastrointestinal conditions, with a strong focus on colorectal surgery. Dr Henderson has specific clinical interests in laparoscopic procedures for bowel cancer and the surgical management of complex inflammatory bowel disease. In addition, her broad surgical background includes emergency paediatric surgery, minimally invasive abdominal resections, and comprehensive emergency general surgical care. She places great emphasis on clear communication, risk understanding, and shared decision-making to optimise patient outcomes.

Dr Henderson earned her medical degree from the University of Dundee, graduating in 2001. During her postgraduate training, she spent time as a Clinical Research Fellow, contributing to research in surgical outcomes and presenting work nationally and internationally. She achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and was distinguished with the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland Gold Medal for attaining the highest score in her FRCS examination. She maintains active professional memberships with the Royal College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Henderson has made significant contributions to medical education and clinical leadership, serving as a Teaching Lead for surgery to guide the next generation of medical professionals.
