Autism Assessment

Wait times for autism assessment  report extremely misleading.

It is advertised as 8 - 12 weeks, however 20 weeks on, we are still waiting. We've chased it up several times and are just told "it's being finalised" and that "8 - 12 weeks" is just a guideline, and it doesn't mean it will be completed in 12 weeks!

Making you wait an unknown time for such important news is extremely stressful for anyone, but for someone with anxiety, it's completely unacceptable.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

I would absolutely recommend Dr Powell for both diagnosis and therapy/treatment, having worked with him on my own neurodifferences and strategies around this, I was very confident he would be an excellent choice for my daughter's assessment. His approach was extremely professional but also very appropriate and warm in his dealings with my daughter...the assessment felt so very relaxed and friendly and she had no anxiety through the process. Our many questions were answered in a detailed and evidence based way and we feel very informed and able to support her. The report was extremely detailed and had the right information we need for school in terms of recommendations and understanding her traits.

I came to Dr Maria during a particularly difficult period in my life, dealing with financial pressure, uncertainty around work, and the challenges of navigating relationships as a husband and father.

I have always struggled to talk openly about my feelings, but from our very first conversation she made me feel completely at ease. I was genuinely surprised by how quickly I was able to open up and have difficult conversations that I had never had with anyone else before.

The setting she has created is peaceful, welcoming and grounding, which made it much easier to switch off from everything outside and focus properly on the sessions.

Dr Maria also uses some really effective and thought-provoking techniques. One that particularly stayed with me involved speaking from the perspective of different parts of myself, almost giving each side a voice. It helped me understand why I could sometimes feel pulled in completely different directions, and to appreciate what each part of me was actually trying to say or protect. It sounds simple, but it gave me a perspective on myself that I don’t believe I would have reached on my own.

Over time, she helped me understand how much of my past had shaped the way I think, communicate and respond in the present. I came away from sessions not only feeling lighter, but also more confident and better equipped to deal with difficult situations.

The insight and tools I gained have helped me become more open, more self-aware and more comfortable speaking my mind. I genuinely feel the process has made me a better partner, father, professional and person overall.

I’m very grateful to Dr Maria for the support she gave me during an important chapter of my life. For me, it was genuinely a life-changing experience, and one that has had a lasting impact on how I understand myself and approach life. I would recommend her without hesitation.

I am so glad I found Sam to be my therapist. The therapy has been life-changing for me. 

I contacted Sam during a very difficult family mental-health crisis, alongside a period of high work stress, and she was such a reassuring voice in the chaos. 

She helped me get through the crisis point through having a safe space to talk, with practical ideas on how to solve immediate challenges like struggling with stress and sleep. Sam helped me to navigate relationships and feelings in a way that has had a lasting positive impact for me and my family and in my work-life. This helped me to support family in a way that is healthier for us all.

She supported me to understand interactions I was having, and try out new ways of engaging, which have created real change. I was surprised at the impact, in such a relatively short time, solving issues that seemed impenetrable before.

I wanted a therapist who was authentic and easy to talk to, and while I was cautious toward therapy I really trust Sam and became quickly confident to share. She helped me to focus on what I could do to improve things - in what felt like a sea of challenges - and think toward the future so I can continue with what I have learned.
