About Mrs Renee Behrens

Mrs Renée Behrens has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at The Royal Hampshire County Hospital since 2008.  Since then she has expanded the provision of key-hole (minimal access) surgery including laparoscopic hysterectomy and myomectomy. She has developed and led the very successful early pregnancy unit, a service dealing with complications of early pregnancy until 2022. Renée now leads the Fertility service including offering specialist fertility surgery, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology and recurrent pregnancy loss clinics.

Renée completed her medical training in 1990 gaining honours and went on to do extensive post-graduate training in London, working at both Hammersmith and St Mary's Hospitals.  During this time she developed expertise in Infertility spending three years working in the Hammersmith In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Unit. She was successful in obtaining a Wellcome Research fellowship and was awarded a Masters (MD) degree from the University of London for research into Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and embryo implantation in 2009.

In her current role, Renée covers most gynaecological conditions. Her areas of special interest include laparoscopic surgery, fertility, complications of early pregnancy, menstrual disorders, endometriosis, polycystic ovaries, adolescent gynaecology and the menopause.

Renée continues to be actively involved in research and projects as both a Clinical and Principal Investigator. She speaks locally and nationally and is involved in training the next generation of doctors. She is the Lead for Gynaecology at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
