About Mr Keith Louden

Mr Keith Louden has been a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester since 1995. He was appointed to develop and advance the hospital’s capabilities in minimal access surgery, focusing on both laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, alongside general gynaecology. Over the years, he has introduced a range of innovative surgical procedures and played a key role in modernising gynaecological investigation and treatment with an emphasis on reducing the need for invasive interventions.

His clinical interests lie particularly in the management of endometriosis, pelvic pain and menstrual disorders. Mr Louden leads specialist clinics dedicated to these conditions, offering patients a comprehensive approach that includes transvaginal ultrasound assessment during outpatient consultations. He holds the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists’ special skills module in gynaecological ultrasound.

His interest in treating women who are experiencing problems relating to the perimenopause/menopause dates back to a visit to the World Menopause Congress in Sydney back in 1997. He enjoys supporting women as they consider hormone replacement therapy, and is skilled in adjusting treatment plans to suit individual patients.

Mr Louden graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1983 and later obtained a postgraduate MD in reproductive physiology. In 1993, he completed a year-long fellowship in laparoscopic surgery in Melbourne, Australia, further enhancing his surgical expertise. He became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 1990 and was awarded Fellowship (FRCOG) in 2001.

A longstanding member of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE), Mr Louden served on its National Council for over a decade and was responsible for developing national clinical guidelines. He also hosted the BSGE's national meeting in Winchester in 2001. In addition, he served on the editorial board of The Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, the Royal College’s postgraduate journal. His work reflects a continued commitment to clinical excellence, education, and the advancement of gynaecological care.

“I went in feeling anxious about my coil removal, but the consultant made me feel completely comfortable. He explained everything clearly and I left feeling much more relaxed about the process.”
