    Special interests

Laparoscopic (Keyhole) gallbladder and biliary surgery

I have a special interest in diseases of the gallbladder such as gallstones and gallbladder dyskinesia and have a high volume practice in managing these conditions with experience in managing acute gallstone disease. I also manage bile duct stones and pancreatic pseudocysts laparoscopically.

Laparoscopic (Keyhole ) Groin hernia surgery

All patients with groin hernia regardless of symptoms should be offered a consultation as the long term outcome of early operation is better than wait and watch policy even in asymptomatic hernia according to recently published international guidelines. I have a special interest in performing laparoscopic groin hernia operations. I have been to Belgium to train and learn new approaches in robotic surgery in groin hernia .

Abdominal wall hernia and complex abdominal wall reconstruction ( Laparoscopic/Open)

I adopt a multidisciplinary team approach to complex abdominal wall reconstruction including both open and minimally invasive techniques. Abdominal wall hernia result in poor quality of life due to poor abdominal wall function and surgical treatment can offer a significant improvement in quality of life. I offer Laparoscopic and open approaches to management of abdominal wall hernia, incisional hernia, umbilical and paraumbilical hernia. I have learnt new approaches in robotic surgery in abdominal wall hernia repair and reconstruction at specialist centres in Belgium .

    Acute Surgery (Laparoscopic/Open)

I have a high volume practice im emergency surgery and perform laparoscopic appendicectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy , diagnostic laparoscopy for abdominal pain, small bowel resection, colectomy, laparoscopic duodenal perforated ulcer repair

Dr Tapuria His an attentive and responsible surgeon. He helped me deal with the fears before and answered me patiently every time I asked a question. On the day of the surgery I received excellent treatment from the entire staff. After the surgery as well. Tapuria Came when I recovered just after, to check if I was okay. After whem I was at home he called and checked how I was. He was available by email and phone and even initiated several calls later to check that the recovery was normal. The operation was successful and the scars are not too noticeable, despite the complex situation. Thank you Dr Tapuria.

I can not recommend Mr Tapuria enough. When I first met him, I had been into A n E the night before with abdominal pain. He had arranged for me to have an ultrasound which showed I had a hernia. I was terrified. I met with his team first who had told me I probably wouldn't need surgery - it took Mr Tapuria less than 5 minutes to see that I needed help. He discussed my options with me, taking into account I am a single mum, and we decided I'd need surgery within the month. On the day of the surgery, he came to visit me on the ward. Sitting with the registrar, he answered all the questions I had and took time out to settle my nerves. The surgery went as well as could be expected and I was sent home the same day. A week later, he personally called to see how I was getting on. I explained I seemed to have a lump at the top of my scar which I was concerned about. He booked me in to see him within the week to put my mind at ease. 8 weeks post surgery and I am back at 98% of my normal life. I've had 2 calls with Mr Taipur soon, and a promise he is available if I should ever need advice for my stomach. A brilliant surgeon and generally a kind, emotive person. Essential qualities in his role.

Mr Tapuria explained my procedure and was very welcoming despite the pressures of the current Covid-19 situation. He was approachable and reassuring where I had concerns. He was flexible in scheduling additional appointments when there were complications with my procedure and was quick to resolve these so that I didn’t have the inconvenience of waiting times. His friendly manner was appreciated.

I received excellent care from Mr Tapuria and his team. I required a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), Mr Tapuria and his team explained the procedure, the risks and possible complications fully and in a way I could understand. Like most patients, I suspect, my biggest anxiety was concerning the anaesthetic, but the team were really great at easing my nerves and assured me they would take good care of me - which they did. The procedure was slightly more complicated than anticipated but Mr Tapuria with great skill managed to complete the procedure by keyhole surgery as planned. Another worry was that I might need the open surgery which has a much longer recovery time. I am a carer for my adult son so a longer recovery time would have impacted on a household greatly - I am deeply grateful to Mr Tapuria for his skill to perform the procedure in the least intrusive way. The after care I received was excellent and I was allowed home the same day. I had anticipated some discomfort after the procedure, but this was much less than I thought it would be and I was able to managed with nothing more than paracetamol for pain relief. I have been very cautious in terms of (over) doing things, getting up and walking and very little else which I think has also aided my recovery and meant I can return to work after two weeks convalescence as planned. I can highly recommend Mr Tapuria and his team who took excellent care of me during and after my procedure.

Mr Tapuria and his team explained everything I needed to know before the operation, including the possible risks and what to expect afterwards. They were very calm and reassuring and at all times I felt very well cared for. Mr Tapuria saw me later that day to see how I was and to confirm how the operation had gone. He confirmed that he was happy for me to go home the same day. I was given plenty of information verbally and in writing. He followed this up with a phone call 10 days later to check on my recovery and gave me the opportunity to ask any further questions if I wished.

This was my first experience of an operation and being put to sleep and I thank you all for making something I was so frightened of a much better experience than expected. I got a follow up phone call from Mr Tapuria on day 5 post op, asking if all was ok and if I had any questions about my recovery. Amazing team of people x

I was seen by Mr Niteen Tapuria through the esc and found him to be polite and professional. After a few tests I was booked in for surgery the next morning. Surgery went well and I am left with neat, tidy, small scars. After a week, I now have minimal pain and I am healing very well. Although I would of liked a little bit more information about what was found during the operation when Mr Niteen Tapuria visited me on the ward after the surgery, I did have a phone consultation 5 days after the surgery where he spoke more about what he found and gave me advice on what to take to help aid my recovery and if I had any problems to contact him again. I really can't fault any treatment I had by Mr Niteen Tapuria or the staff on the ward I was on, I found him to be an excellent surgeon who was also very polite, professional and I liked the way he phoned afterwards to see how I was doing.

He completed specialist fellowship at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham and gained Hepatobiliary Consultant level experience in Liverpool. He also have good experience in management of groin and abdominal wall hernia and have also received Robotics training in Belgium.
