He has performed more than 500 laparoscopic cholecystectomies for gallstones and is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as bile duct stones , pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancer and diseases of the liver as well as Spleen. However, he is also has a special interest in minimally invasive and open techniques for groin hernia repair and abdominal wall hernia as well . More recently he has developed skills in Robotic surgery and Virtual reality surgery .

Graduating with a medical degree from the University of Delhi in 1992, followed by MS in General Surgery from Delhi University, he moved to the UK and began his specialist training here in King’s College Hospital, London . His first job as an HBP Specialist Registrar began in the Royal Free and University College London Hospitals in 2011. Awards

Mr Tapuria is a recipent of the European Society of Surgical Oncology Fellowship and Peter Samuel Grant (Royal Free Trust) .

    Academic interests

Mr Tapuria is currently the Principal investigator at MKUH for trials looking at role of MRCP in gallstones and drug modulation in pancreatitis. He was awarded an MD in 2008 from the University College of London for his research work which demonstrated the protective role of preconditioning on organs by regulation of endothelial function. He has published in peer reviewed journals and presented at International conferences. He is a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery and other journals by invitation.

Laparoscopic (Keyhole) gallbladder and biliary surgery

I have a special interest in diseases of the gallbladder such as gallstones and gallbladder dyskinesia and have a high volume practice in managing these conditions with experience in managing acute gallstone disease. I also manage bile duct stones and pancreatic pseudocysts laparoscopically.

Laparoscopic (Keyhole ) Groin hernia surgery

All patients with groin hernia regardless of symptoms should be offered a consultation as the long term outcome of early operation is better than wait and watch policy even in asymptomatic hernia according to recently published international guidelines. I have a special interest in performing laparoscopic groin hernia operations. I have been to Belgium to train and learn new approaches in robotic surgery in groin hernia .

Abdominal wall hernia and complex abdominal wall reconstruction ( Laparoscopic/Open)

I adopt a multidisciplinary team approach to complex abdominal wall reconstruction including both open and minimally invasive techniques. Abdominal wall hernia result in poor quality of life due to poor abdominal wall function and surgical treatment can offer a significant improvement in quality of life. I offer Laparoscopic and open approaches to management of abdominal wall hernia, incisional hernia, umbilical and paraumbilical hernia. I have learnt new approaches in robotic surgery in abdominal wall hernia repair and reconstruction at specialist centres in Belgium .

    Acute Surgery (Laparoscopic/Open)

I have a high volume practice im emergency surgery and perform laparoscopic appendicectomy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy , diagnostic laparoscopy for abdominal pain, small bowel resection, colectomy, laparoscopic duodenal perforated ulcer repair

Excision of skin lesions, surgical treatment of haemorrhoids and anal fissure.

From the very beginning Mr Tapuria was very clear on the diagnosis and treatment required. I was given a very detailed explanation of my surgery, and after the successful surgery Mr Tapuria made sure that I was well looked after. When I was discharged he kept in touch to guide and advise me on any matters that I was worried about. Overall I am sastified with Mr Tapuria’s service and highly recommend him.

I was fortunate enough to get a cancellation operation date. This was my meeting with Mr Tapuria, who explained what was going to happen in great detail, so going into theatre I felt much more relaxed. At my follow-up appointment, once again treated with great respect and any questions I had, answered. Overall my experience was excellent, and I feel fortunate to be treated by him.

I have known Niteen since his training days. he is an excellent surgeon and a kind and empathetic human being. He has extensive experience in complex key hole surgery of the gallbladder due to subspecialty experience in Hepatobiliary surgery. He completed specialist fellowship at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham and gained Hepatobiliary Consultant level experience in Liverpool. He also have good experience in management of groin and abdominal wall hernia and have also received Robotics training in Belgium. I would strongly recommend him for any specialist surgical issues requiring consultation or surgery.
