About Dr Prakash Gupta
Dr Prakash Gupta is a Consultant in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Medicine at Milton Keynes University Hospital and also practises privately at the Saxon Clinic in Milton Keynes and VitalScan Ltd. He has particular expertise in hepatology, metabolic and fatty liver disease (MASLD/NAFLD), and general gastroenterology. He is also experienced in endoscopy, hepatobiliary conditions, and longevity and lifestyle medicine.
Dr Gupta qualified in 2003 from The Royal Free and University College Medical School. He gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians before undertaking specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Oxford Deanery, including advanced hepatology and liver transplant experience at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. Supported by a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship, he completed a DPhil at the University of Oxford in liver immunology and genomics, during which he spent three years as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
He was appointed a locum consultant at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, before taking up his current substantive post at Milton Keynes University Hospital. Since 2017 he has established and led the Hepatology department there, including an inpatient and outpatient service, a dedicated nursing team, and a transplant programme in collaboration with Cambridge University Hospitals. He has also held a number of leadership roles, including Lead in Specialty Medicine and Lead in Hepatology.
Dr Gupta has published widely and remains active in clinical research, serving as a co-investigator in multi-centre trials. He continues to teach and supervise junior doctors, medical students, and specialist trainees, and is a certified trainer in upper GI endoscopy. He has developed a clinical focus on longevity medicine, integrating nutrition, exercise, supplements, sleep and gut microbiome health.

Dr Gupta was great from the start, welcoming me with a warm, friendly manner. He listened (really listened) to my explanation of issues, asked questions, performed physical examination, listened some more, then gave me a plan of action. I then asked another question pertinent to my wellbeing and he really took the time to explain & give me good information to go forward with. Thank you - one of the best consultants I have ever seen.
Everything was great. No waiting time, Dr Gupta was very nice, and gave clear explanations of potential diagnoses and required tests and procedures.
Appointment on time, lovely doctor who took the time to ask me questions and give advice.
I was unsure as to why I had been referred, but Dr Gupta explained everything that was going on with my liver, what scan was required, what the results could show and what may be required in the future. He was immensely reassuring and supportive. I left the appointment feeling very positive and am grateful for the time Dr Gupta took with me.

A bit of a mixup internally as neither Dr Gupta or I fully understood what the appointment was for. After a review the reason became apparent.
I had an excellent experience with Dr Gupta. He was thorough, professional, and took his time to explain everything clearly. He made me feel comfortable and safe during my first appointment and even took the time to educate me about the gut microbiome. I ask a lot of questions, but he answered every one with patience and care. Highly efficient and genuinely compassionate — I’d absolutely recommend him.
