Dr. Krishna Lingam

Krishna Lingam is a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in Vascular and Endocrine Surgery based in Derby. He qualified in medicine in 1986 from the University of Glasgow. He trained in Scotland for 12 years and was exposed to a wide range of surgery covering upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery, vascular surgery and endocrine surgery. During this, he also received his doctorate thesis in 1994 in the surgical management of malignant melanoma, also from the University of Glasgow.

Mr Lingam was appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in vascular surgery and endocrine surgery in 1999 at the then Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, now known as Royal Derby Hospitals. Mr Lingam continues to practice general surgery along with vascular and endocrine surgery and has been a consultant for over 20 years working full time in the NHS as well as private practice at Nuffield Health Derby Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as well as the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

His special interests include gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) and open and laparoscopic hernia repair of inguinal hernia, femoral hernia, umbilical hernia and incisional hernias. He also has expertise in sigmoidoscopies in addition to removal of anal lesions and polyp, banding of haemorrhoids and haemorrhoidectomy. He has several years of experience performing endoscopies to investigate and treat conditions such as hiatus hernia and gastritis.

As a vascular surgeon, Mr Lingam offers treatment for both venous and arterial diseases. He offers treatment of varicose veins including radiofrequency ablation and foam sclerotherapy of thread veins. He undertakes endovascular treatment for arterial disease and also open surgery including aneurysm repair and carotid endarterectomy to reduce stroke and peripheral artery surgery such as femoral bypass surgery. He is also a trained endocrine surgeon and offers both partial and total thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy as well as excision of carotid body tumours.
