“Mr Laniado recently carried out a HOLEP operation to reduce an enlarged prostate. The operation was necessary to avoid what would eventually block off the abilty to urinate. But it also carried significant risks. Not all operations are successful and if not carried out skillfully enough, it can impair the abilty to maintain intimate relationship going forward. Mr Laniado explained the reason I needed the operation and he went though, very patiently, all the options. He was very clear about which option he recommended and why. I was choosing between two options. His in-depth explanations made me feel fully informed to make the decision, yet at no time did he pressurise me into making a different decision to his recommendation. In the end, he recommended I had the operation at a hospital in London. It has a state-of-the-art robotic laser which he says he has used extensively and which gives the best outcomes. I had the operation. It could not have been easier. Mr Laniado is clearly exceptionall skillful. The operation itself we completely successful in all respects. The discomfort and blockages I endured before the operation have completely gone. Mr Laniado's after-care was also as good as I could be hoped for. I was nervous about how the recovery was going. He was immediately responsive and easy to contact. He was patient and reassuring. Everything happened exactly as he advised it would. It is now four weeks since my operation. I already feel my life has completely transformed for the better now that I am no longer limited by a condition that is uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. I recommend Mr Laniado most strongly. Operations like this can be very delicate and pose very high risks. In Mr Laniado, you can be sure you are in the safest hands. “

    About

Mr Marc Laniado is an excellent Consultant Urological surgeon and the prostate cancer chairman of the prostate cancer multidisciplinary team at the HCA Princess Grace Hospital. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of men with prostate cancer and urinary symptoms due to an enlarged prostate (BPH). He offers an individualised approach, tailoring the tests or treatments to the specific values of the man he sees.

For men with urinary symptoms due to BPH, Marc Laniado advises men on lifestyle changes and medications. Where these are unsuccessful, he performs day-case procedures that alleviate urinary symptoms keeping ejaculation (UroLift, Rezum). Some men have unsuitable prostates and need a HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) or Aquablation, which can also preserve erections and ejaculation. Mr Laniado uses an en-bloc technique with early apical sphincter release and a Moses 2.0 holmium laser at the Princess Grace Hospital for best results.

To help men have fewer side effects from radiotherapy, He does SpaceOAR/Barrigel insertions under local anaesthetic.

Prostate cancer is increasingly common and many men are diagnosed with small cancer potentially suitable for partial ablation, which is also known as focal therapy. For appropriate men, Mr Laniado performs High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), which preserves continence and erections in most men. He started HIFU in 2005.

Mr Laniado trained in open prostatectomy, started laparoscopic prostatectomies in 2006 and moved onto robotic prostatectomies in 2008/9. He switched from the anterior approach for robotic prostatectomy to the Retzius-sparing technique at the end of 2016. Retzius-sparing prostatectomy, in his experience, allows men to quickly recover bladder control and preserve the structures needed for an erection.

Mr Laniado trains other surgeons in robotic prostatectomy in the European School at Royal Berkshire Hospital. He has driven the development of multiparametric MRI and MRI-targeted fusion biopsies of the prostate to diagnose men accurately. He started MRI-targeted biopsies in 2012 and does over two hundred MRI-targeted fusion biopsies a year. He introduced Retzius sparing prostatectomy at the end of 2016 as his preserved surgical technique as patients recover bladder control and erections faster than normal technique. He does about 100 Retzius-sparing prostatectomies a year.

Mr Laniado grew up in North London and is married with two children. He enjoys windsurfing in Poole, tennis, running and walking his labradors in Windsor Great Park amongst other locations.

Since my diagnosis with prostate cancer I have found Marc to be thorough and professional in all his dealings with me. My operation was successful and has left me both continent and with full sexual function. I was also able to return to work within 7 days and was only in hospital for two nights. At all of my subsequent appointments Marc has taken time to explain my blood results and exactly what they mean. I would thoroughly recommend that any one with prostate cancer concerns talks to Marc.

Mr Laniado discussed my symptoms in a clear way, completed the scans and recommend a HoLEP procedure to remove parts of the prostate. This was performed by him in the BMI Princess Margaret Hospital, the result has been totally successful. We have just completed the post-op review, after one month. As well as so skillful, Mr Laniado has been most informative, attentive, courteous and patient throughout and has far exceeded my expectations.

Marc is a very special Urologist (and friend). He has consistently worked harder and managed to master more state of the art treatments than anyone else I know. He is passionate about giving patients accurate details that relate to their situation, he is always prepared to refer patients onto other urologists who may be better suited to that case, he is always trying to be as accurate as possible. He pioneered the view the you need precision diagnostics to offer precision treatments. Great urologist!
