About
Mr Finlay Curran is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon who has been based at BMI The Alexandra Hospital for twenty years. He is also consultant general and colorectal surgeon with the NHS and has previously been clinical director at Stepping Hill Hospital.
Mr Curran performs both laparoscopic and open surgery and specialises in endoscopy, hernia, and colorectal surgery. He also has a particular interest in pelvic floor conditions and works closely with his colleagues in gynaecology to manage complex conditions such as rectal endometriosis and pelvic mesh complications. Mr Curran is a current member of the Pelvic Floor Society and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
Mr Curran achieved his medical qualification from the University of Glasgow in 1989 before specialising in general and colorectal surgery through extensive postgraduate training across Glasgow, Merseyside, and Manchester. He was then awarded a travelling fellowship, where he focused on minimally invasive surgery and became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1993. Mr Curran also takes an active role in the academic education of his peers and has previously held the position of Divisional Lead for Postgraduate Medical Education with the Royal College. He is also a member of the Manchester Expert Research Group into Endometriosis.
