During a routine eye test, I was diagnosed with a full thickness macular hole in my right eye and the beginnings of a hole in my left eye. My vision was deteriorating and I was finding it increasingly difficult to read text and numbers as they appeared distorted, particularly on computer screens and the television. I was referred to Danny Mitry by an ophthalmologist who assured me that Danny was an expert in vitreo-retinal surgery and also ‘really nice’. Danny’s qualifications are impressive and he is a highly experienced surgeon. At my first appointment with him, I was feeling very apprehensive about the prospect of having an operation on my eye, but I was immediately reassured by his calm, attentive and friendly manner. After a thorough examination and scan of my eyes, Danny explained that I would require a Vitrectomy, peel and gas insertion on my right eye to close the hole and that the left eye should be monitored as the hole may spontaneously heal. Danny explained the procedure very clearly and patiently answered my many questions. I was concerned that I would be conscious during the operation performed using local anaesthetic and sedation. Danny reassured me that I would feel nothing during the procedure and gave me the confidence to go ahead with booking a date for the operation. The operation went to plan. The sedation was wonderful – I was completely relaxed and felt nothing during the operation. Afterwards, I remember hearing Danny saying, ‘All over, textbook result, well done’. The eye healed well and the macular hole has closed resulting in great improvement in my vision. The aftercare was excellent with follow up appointments to examine my eye to check on progress. Again, Danny was supportive and reassuring in answering my questions about how long my vision would take to improve and whether I could resume exercise such as walking and yoga. Unfortunately, the macular hole in my left eye did not spontaneously close, so a second operation was scheduled in early November, six weeks after the first. This time I felt confident enough to opt for a combined procedure removing the lens in the left eye and implanting an intraocular lens aiming for good distance vision. This will avoid the need for an operation in the next couple of years to remove a cataract that would most likely develop. It is now 6 weeks after the second operation and my vision has greatly improved. I can read text and numbers again with my existing glasses as the visual distortion has almost disappeared. My distance vision is also much improved in my left eye and I am finding that I do not need to wear glasses when moving around indoors or walking outside. I would highly recommend Danny Mitry as a skilled and caring Ophthalmic surgeon and cannot thank him enough for supporting me through an anxious couple of months.

I went to see Mr Mitry due to sudden changes with my sight. He was very friendly and went out of his way to understand what I was experiencing before doing his examination. He then explained what had happened and what could be done to improve the situation. I decided to have ‘ultrasound phacoemulsification of cataract, with lens implant’. My Vitrectomy on September 23 2020 was an amazingly pleasant experience and also a huge success. After eye drops and an injection to numb my left eye, Danny, using microscopes and microsurgical instruments to see, removed the vitreous and cleaned inside the eye cavity; using a vitrector and forceps deftly removed the epiretinal membrane scarring from the retina at the back of my eye. To fill and to protect the eye cavity Danny inserted 'Air' thus needing no Postering on my part afterwards. The surgical procedure time was less than one hour. I am extremely grateful for Danny Mitri's expertise.

Danny Mitry is an excellent surgeon who is also very personable and easy to talk to. He put me at ease from the minute I spoke to him and was kind enough to call me even before my first consultation due to anxiety I expressed to his secretary. I had a macula hole which he repaired with a gas bubble under sedation. I was totally unaware of anything apart from him talking to me throughout and putting me at ease. It’s been almost 8 weeks since my operation and my vision is almost back to normal and will only improve with time. I also had the cataract corrected at the same time. I would highly recommend Danny as your surgeon especially if you have any anxieties around the operation.

I had a cataract operation in my right eye. The procedure involved the removal of the cataract and then replacing it with a new lens designed to give me better vision in that eye. Mr Mitry explained the procedure to me beforehand in such a way that I felt confident and was able to approach the operation calmly. The operation was completely painless, using a local anesthetic and sedation. The operation was a success and I could see the effects almost immediately: I can now read without glasses (including reading the newspaper - which had been a real strain before, even with strong reading glasses). My eyesight for driving and night vision is also considerably improved. I have to say that overall, I am delighted with the outcome of this operation and am very grateful to Mr Mitry for his skill and expertise.

I was referred to Mr Mitry for cataract surgery by my ophthalmologist, who told me he would want to be treated by Mr Mitry himself. At the initial consultation Mr Mitry explained the options available, including using toric lenses to correct astigmatism as well as my extreme short sight. This gave me all the information I needed to decide on the treatment and gave me a good idea of what to expect. I have now had both eyes treated. Throughout, Mr Mitry was calm and reassuring. I know that cataract surgery is straightforward and very low-risk, but I never felt he was ‘on automatic pilot’ and he appreciated that it was not a routine experience for me. It is now 3 weeks since the second operation and everything has gone perfectly. I no longer need to wear glasses for daily activities, but will need mild reading glasses for the very slight short sight which was planned for at the beginning. I am very happy with the experience and feel I could not have been in better hands.

Mr Mitry has a gentle and reassuring approach and listens well to concerns, and then explains the approach or solutions thoroughly. Overall, it was an excellent and rewarding result. Cannot thank him enough!! The whole experience has been far beyond my expectations, and I had no reason to be anxious!!

I had a cataract surgery with Danny. At every step of the way, Danny was the best - supportive, explained everything in great detail and very calming. At both my initial consultation and on the day of the operation he explained the procedure and the after care, and what I should expect to experience in theatre and recovery, in great detail, and most importantly in a very calm manner so I could understand. I had lots of questions and he answered every one of them. The actual operation was swift and, with sedation, I can't remember a thing! The day to day recovery was exactly as Danny had explained. By the time I had my follow up two weeks later I was well on my way to recovery. As a very active man, I wanted to know when and how I could get back to the gym and other activities, and he had all the answers - I didn't have to read between the lines like you have to with so many other medical professionals, it was all clear and concise. When I need my other eye doing, there is only one ophthalmologist I will be calling on - Danny Mitry.

I can thoroughly recommend Mr Mitry, he is an excellent surgeon who has given me back my sight!! I had cataract surgery with lens replacement performed by Mr Mitry September 2020. During the initial consult, day-case admission and the follow-up appointment for post surgery review, I was made to feel at ease. Mr Mitry is a true professional and also very personable which made me feel I could easily ask questions and discuss my concerns. Mr Mitry provided a clear explanation of the issue with my eye, what I would experience during the surgery and what he would do during the procedure to correct my vision. He also let me how my eye would feel in the first 24 hours afterwards and what to expect during this time. My vision is fantastic (it is better than 2020), having had the same life changing surgery on both eyes now.

I am thrilled to be able to see again following my cataract operation. My eyesight had deteriorated considerably and I couldn't even read the first letter on the eye chart with my left eye. It feels like a miracle and as I was short sighted before, I chose to have a correcting lens put in. On my post op check up I could see all the letters. It is fabulous to not only be able to see again but with my eyesight, I have been able to see to drive without glasses. 20 20 vision in 2020! My Mitry explained things well to me which was good as in COVID times I didn't have anyone with me and I felt reassured and confident. The op went fine and took under 30 minutes. I was also pleased to have a contact number in case of queries/worries afterwards, although I didn't actually need it. Also his secretary phoned the day after the op to check in with me. My eye is healing well. It's now two weeks after the op and I am still going with some of the eyedrops for two more weeks. Every morning I wake up smiling because I can see again! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Danny Mitry.

I was referred to Mr Mitry by my optician, as the sight in my left eye had badly deteriorated in just a couple of months. He diagnosed that a film had developed in the eye and surgery was required, he also recommended that a cataract operation be performed at the same time. He also advised that a cataract operation could also be a possibility in the near future. The operation took place at The London Clinic, just five days later. As I had a total fear of having an eye operation, I requested that it be performed under a general anesthetic. The conversations with both MR Mitry and the anesthetist were informative and reassuring. The operation took place and I was released from hospital the same day. I had been warned that I may have some discomfort and pain for a short time and also that there would be an air bubble in the eye that would disperse in about a week. In fact, I only had a dull ache for a day and the air bubble did reduce and finally disperse after a week. Due to the virus, I was unable to have a face-to-face consultation with Mr Mitry, however he was in contact and I updated him with the progress of my sight. When I was able to have the post-op consultation, he confirmed that the operation was a success and detailed the options available to me with regard to my right eye, the variance of sight between my two eyes made it difficult to have a glasses prescription that would balance my sight, so I opted to have a cataract operation on my right eye, the operation taking place at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, this time the anesthetist advised that he would not give me a full anesthetic, but assured me that I would feel no pain and only see a bright light, whilst I was a little apprehensive, I agreed that the operation took place, as promised, there was no pain or discomfort, being released from hospital later that day. Amazingly, that evening I was able to watch TV without glasses, which I have worn for some 67 years, although, as warned, my reading glasses were no longer suitable. Subsequently, my optician has prescribed new lens for my long sight glasses, which he recommends I wear for nighttime driving and new reading lens. Overall, I am so pleased with the result, I have never been prepared to have contact lenses and my fear of having an eye operation was somewhat unnecessary, thank you Danny.

An excellent consultant with a very caring attitude and a friendly approach. He always made sufficient time to discuss any concerns I had and ensured I was given the appropriate information about my cataract operations. He made me feel at ease and confident to go ahead with the eye surgery which was quick and painless. I previously had significant astigmatism and this has been well corrected which I did not think would be possible. I am now driving without glasses which is great and can see everything much clearer. If you need a cataract operation just go for it and I would highly recommend Mr. Mitry to perform the surgery.

For years I had contemplated the prospect of corrective eye surgery and its undeniable benefits, not least given that two members of my family had undergone the procedure and were ecstatic about the results, but my fears about what could go wrong, as there is always a possibility of them doing so when it comes to surgery, elective or otherwise, made me postpone. I'm not entirely sure what made me change my mind to go through with it in November 2019, but I can say for certain that it was the best decision I've ever made. It cannot be overstated how much of my confidence in going through with the procedure was due to the care I received under Dr Danny Mitry. During the initial consultation at Optical Express, I was provided with a short bio of his history in the field of ophthalmology and his pedigree spoke for itself. Even before we met in person, his manner and palpable confidence in his abilities as we spoke over the phone made me feel at ease. He was well spoken and descriptive about the specificities of the procedure without being overtly formal or clinical, and was more than happy to answer any questions I had. On the day of my procedure I met with both Dr Mitry and the surgical team assisting him and their collective bedside manner, as it were, was phenomenal across the board. Before the treatment Dr Mitry re-checked my clinical measurements and was satisfied that we could proceed with the surgery. I was then taken to the laser suite where I lay on the bed with my head placed comfortably in the moulded rest as the procedure was explained to me step by step. My eyes were then prepared by instilling anaesthetic eye drops which completely numbed them. The surgeon placed an eyelid holder over one eye as my opposite eye was covered to eliminate blinking, the compulsion to do so having already been assuaged by the eye drops. A ring was placed on the first eye, keeping it in place with gentle pressure which gradually increased and made my vision go grey for approximately 20 seconds which the surgeon created the LASIK corneal flap. I was then told to look directly into the red light as the laser went to work before the corneal flap was replaced. The same procedure was then completed on the opposite eye. Overall the treatment for both eyes took approximately 15 minutes. I was then ushered into a dark rest area to take the strain off my photosensitive eyes. I did feel a granular sensation in them as the anaesthetic wore off but it was in no way painful, more distracting than anything. My vision as quite hazy but I was assured this was completely normal. Shortly after Dr Mitry checked my eyes to assess the condition of the corneal flaps and was happy with the results. I was then discharged and went directly home to sleep for a few hours as advised while wearing the eye shield provided to prevent me from inadvertently interfering with the healing process as I slept. I was provided with a course of both lubricating and antibiotic eye drops over the next week, and was advised to use the lubricating drops for longer if necessary as dryness can be an issue. I was elated by how, even after only a period of 24 hours, my eyesight had significantly improved, a sentiment shared by those at Optical Express when I attended my post op consultation the day following the procedure. My rate of convalescence was sustained and seemed to be above average according to the literature. My vision is better now than it had been prior to the surgery, even with the assistance of prescription lenses, and as someone who was never crazy about inserting contact lenses, it's provided me with a newfound confidence in my appearance. It seems silly, even trivial, how life changing it is to be able to wake and see one's environs resolve into acute clarity without having to reach for one's glasses, which had been a reflex for so many years. I have since raved to friends and colleagues alike about the benefits of the procedure, supported by my personal experience, mentioning Dr Mitry by name, and there's no doubt in my mind that anyone lucky enough to have him as their surgeon will receive an unparalleled quality of care and expertise.

I have recently had cataract surgery to the left eye with a 'distance' lens to enable me to go without glasses for driving/tv etc. I shall be returning in a few weeks' time for the other eye to have cataract surgery and a lens for reading which should mean I can do away with all glasses - wonderful! Danny Mitry was wonderful . He is very thorough and patient and explaining things in great detail to me including the choice I had to make as to what sort of procedure to have with regard to the lenses. I felt completely confident in him and had the procedure with just a local anaesthetic and the whole thing was seamless. After a couple of days of being a bit frail was able to carry on as normal, driving etc. When resting was able to watch the tennis on tv - beautiful clear picture. I have just returned from seeing Mr. Mitry having this eye signed off and looking forward to seeing him soon for the other eye. I would absolutely recommend Danny Mitry for any eye treatment and couldn't have had a better experience.
