Mr Sam Gidwani is a Consultant Hand and Wrist surgeon, based at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals, London since 2009. His practice is focused entirely on disorders and injuries of the hand, wrist and forearm. He regularly treats musicians, as well as professional and amateur sportsmen and women, and was one of the surgeons dealing with athletes' hand and wrist injuries during the 2012 London Olympics.
Mr Gidwani completed his orthopaedic training in 2006, and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma & Orthopaedics). He then spent two years in further training at specialist hand and wrist centres including the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, and the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. This period of training culminated in the award of the British Hand Surgery Diploma. Between 2014 and 2017, he was the Lead Consultant of the Guy's Orthopaedic Department, one of the largest and busiest units in London.
As well as being a busy clinician, Mr Gidwani is actively involved in training junior surgeons; he previously served on the British Hand Surgery Society's Instructional Course Committee, and was co-founder and convener of the St Thomas' cadaveric hand trauma course. He keeps his own knowledge and skills up-to-date by regular attendance at national and international conferences, whether as a delegate or member of the teaching faculty. His research interests include the treatment of hand, wrist and scaphoid fractures, and the use of joint replacement in the hand and wrist, and he has been a member of the BSSH Research Committee since 2021. He also has served as a member of council for the BSSH since 2026.
Mr Gidwani, is extremely knowledgable and experienced within his field; he treats his patients with kindness and respect, and ensures that they feel included in the whole process of their care and treatment.

Mr Sam Gidwani is friendly, professional, and reassuring. He gives clear details on patient conditions, treatment options, and recovery. Patients report successful outcomes for wrist fracture repair, carpal tunnel release, and Dupuytren's fasciectomy. These experiences highlight his exceptional care for a broad range of hand and wrist surgical treatments.
Having any surgery is never fun, but Mr Gidwani made the end-to-end experience a real pleasure. After working out what was needed, he briefed me on the procedure and explained the risks. The operation went well, and the scar on my wrist has healed nicely, leaving only a tiny mark. I would recommend Sam Gidwani to anyone!
I can’t praise Mr Gidwani highly enough for his knowledge, explanation and advice regarding my issue of a severed forefinger tendon and a ruptured thumb tendon from a metal plate implant from a fall I encountered a few years ago. I am so glad I chose Mr Gidwani to perform the surgery and my recovery is 100%. I can now use my finger and thumb correctly without any issues or pain. I am extremely grateful to be back to normal and a little in disbelief that the operation was so successful.
I knew I was in the best hands with Mr. Gidwani which was totally reassuring in such an unknown situation. It was wonderful to have his expertise which I trusted from meeting him. My cast is off and turns out I was right. Thank you, hope I don’t need to return for another broken wrist but if I do I will be back !
Mr Sam Gidwani and his team were absolutely amazing. I was very nervous about my hand surgery. It was very daunting but Mr Gidwani put me completely at ease and made my experience as easy as possible..

My experience with Mr Gidwani could not have been better. His bedside manner was excellent and I felt comfortable and fully informed throughout the whole process. Friends in the medical profession who saw my hand afterwards were struck by the quality of the surgery. Thank you, Mr Gidwani
