Mr Robert Howell

Mr Robert Howell is a Consultant General Surgeon, specialising in lower gastrointestinal surgery. He graduated from Medicine in 1992 from King's College Hospital and undertook subsequent training in the Wessex region. He then completed a fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery before being appointed as Consultant in 2004 at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He set up a special colorectal service which involved patients undergoing an advanced recovery programme. This allowed rapid rehabilitation and shorter hospital stays.

His practice covers investigation and treatment of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, fissures, diverticular disease, haemorrhoids, and pilonidal disease. He is also highly experienced in performing colonoscopy in the treatment for patients experiencing rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habits and family history conditions.
