About Mr Rhodri Codd
Mr Rhodri Codd is a consultant colorectal and general surgeon who practises at a number of locations including St Joseph's Hospital, Royal Gwent Hospital, Grange University Hospital and Nevill Hall Hospital. He specialises in robotic and laparoscopic surgery, endoscopy, colonoscopy (including polypectomy), hernia surgery, colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and proctology. Mr Codd is currently the only surgeon at St Joseph's Hospital (https://www.stjosephshospital.co.uk/consultants/mr-rhodri-codd/) to offer trans-anal haemorrhoidal dearterialisation (THD) (https://www.thdlab.co.uk) for the treatment of haemorrhoids (piles). This is a less painful method for the treatment of most grades of haemorrhoids. He also offers treatment for conditions including anal fissure, fistula, groin pain, pelvic floor disorders, rectal bleeding, lipomas, cysts and removal of lumps and bumps.
Mr Codd qualified in 2002, before completing a master's degree in medical education. After completing higher training in general and colorectal surgery, Mr Codd then undertook a fellowship training programme in laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Leeds. This enabled him to develop his expertise in laparoscopic colorectal surgery as well as complex pelvic oncology surgery, complex proctology, and inflammatory bowel disease. He was also awarded an advanced pelvic oncology fellowship in Swansea and a travelling fellowship which was based at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

Very clear advice and suggestions for improvement of my condition
I attended st Joseph’s and was treated Mr CODD for an inguinal hernia. The wait for a consultation was fast and within a month I had my operation. The hospital and staff were fantastic. Mr CODD was friendly and professional. I felt at ease and in safe hands. The operation was successful and 5 week later I’m nearly back to normal activities.
From original consultation to procedure received an outstanding service, was given clear transparent advice with detailed explanations of the outcome with options.
My consultation with Mr Codd was excellent. He provided outstanding care throughout, explained everything clearly, and made me feel reassured from start to finish. The whole process was efficient, professional, and well organised.

I underwent a self funded bilateral inguinal hernia repair with Mr Rhodri Codd at St. Josephs Hospital, Malpas. My husband , who is a GP, thoroughly researched the most competent surgeons for this specific procedure and found Mr Codd . His professional endorsement was entirely correct. Fom the initial consultation to the operation, Mr Codd's expertise, clear explanations, and professional bedside manner were outstanding. The keyhole surgery was highly successful with a very smooth recovery. If you are looking for a highly skilled and reassuring surgeon, I cannot recommend him enough, a genuinely very nice gentleman too.
