His surgical training in the UK included positions as a Lecturer in Surgery at Bristol University and a Fellow in Endocrine Surgery in Oxford.
In 2007, he was appointed Consultant Endocrine Surgeon at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr. Miha's clinical work focuses on thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal surgery, handling over 250 cases annually. He has established the largest practice for open radical adrenalectomy for adrenocortical cancer and has performed over 500 laparoscopic and retroperitoneoscopic adrenal operations for benign adrenal tumours and metastatic disease.
His extensive experience in radical surgery for adrenocortical cancer is combined with a significant workload in retroperitoneal sarcoma surgery as a core member of the Oxford Sarcoma Team.
While the majority of his work involves adult operations, Mr. Miha also regularly treats children requiring thyroid or parathyroid surgeries and has a particular interest in familial endocrine diseases, including MEN-1 and MEN-2 syndromes.
In addition to his endocrine work, Mr. Mihai performs elective surgeries for gallstone disease (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) and open hernia repairs.
He is dedicated to postgraduate education and frequently teaches students, postgraduate doctors, and surgical trainees. For the past 16 years, he has served as an examiner for the European Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery.
Mr. Mihai has held leadership roles, including Director of Research in the British Association of Endocrine Surgeons and the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons from 2012 to 2017, and continued in the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons until 2022. He is the immediate past President of the British Society of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (2021-2024).
With a strong interest in clinical research, Mr. Mihai was named Hunterian Professor of Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005.
He co-authored the European guidelines for the treatment of adrenocortical cancer and for the use of neuromonitoring in thyroid surgery.

Overall a very positive experience with my treatment from Radu Mihai. I was extremely nervous going into this procedure but Radu took the time to explain what exactly I can expect on surgery day, took the time to answer my questions and made me feel at ease ahead of the procedure. We have since been in contact post surgery offering support and advice whilst I recover. I am very pleased with the level of care that I have received.
Dr Mihai was absolutely outstanding. The experience from the first assessment and all throughout post-op were extremely professional with clear expectations and explaining the whole process very clearly and a great level of reassurance all the way 11/10 - cannot express mpre gratitude
The entire experience was calm, efficient and professional by everyone involved.
Mr Mihai was professional and friendly, and instantly put me at ease. He gave me a clear and thorough explanation of the procedure, and answered my questions and responded to my concerns. Post-surgery, I had complications with my calcium levels, but I felt greatly reassured that Mr Mihai and the team were responding promptly and taking my condition seriously. At all times, I felt in safe hands and freely able to ask questions. Mr Mihai listened to me and my worries, and at all times, I felt heard and my opinion valued. Thank you for exceptional care, kindness, and attention to detail.
Mr Mihai has been amazing since the first time we spoke, keeping me informed throughout my whole treatment through to surgery and post surgery, ensuring he checked in post op sharing advice and information on my recovery. He’s been very attentive and I’ve felt extremely well looked after, I’ve felt I was in the best hands the whole way. He’s has a very caring and understanding bedside manner.
I was fortunate enough to have met Mr Mihai at his clinic in Churchill Hospital. I can honestly say that he is an excellent consultant and I couldn't have asked for a better treatment. Throughout my visit he was very professional and polite. He listened to my concerns and took them into consideration when making clinical judgement. He explained my upcoming surgical procedure very clearly and I felt reassured. He is extremely knowledgeable and I couldn't recommend him highly enough.
I was clearly and efficiently explained the options. Involved in the decision making process. Treated with care and respect. All the staff were excellent and provided me with a very high level of care resulting in a very good outcome.
Mr Mihal was lovely explained everything well, taking his time to chat about any aspect of the treatment i will require
I cannot recommend Mr Mihai highly enough. From the moment I met him, he was kind, compassionate and incredibly thorough. He took the time to listen, explain everything clearly, and answer all of my questions without ever making me feel rushed. After months of worry and uncertainty, I left the appointment feeling reassured and much more at ease. What stood out most was not only his expertise, but also his empathy. He recognised the emotional impact that a health concern can have and approached the consultation with genuine care and sensitivity. I am extremely grateful for his professionalism, attention to detail and compassionate manner. Thank you for making such a difficult period feel much more manageable.
My visit was a planned review with ultrasound and bloods. During the ultrasound an fna was taken and cancerous cells found. Mr Mihai reviewed my case within 20mins of the fna and provided a clear and concise plan for treatment and surgery. I came away with very little to question as all areas were covered. It was a calm, measured review that incited confidence and reassurance. I left the department knowing as much as possible about my plan of care.
