I have been the NHS lead for urogynaecology services in Worcestershire for over 20 years. At Spire Southbank I manage all apsects of benign gynaecology but particularly concentrated on pelvic floor problems, vaginal and uterine prolapse, urinary leakage, recurrent cystitis/UTI and bladder pain symptoms. I also commonly see patients with issues relating to abnormal uterine bleeding, vulval irritation and menopause issues/HRT advice.
I take referrals from all parts of the UK. I can provide the full remit of investigations for these problems including links with physiotherapy, urodynamic studies, outpatient cystoscopy, non-surgical treatments (eg pessaries for prolapse) and surgical treatments. I have good links with colorectal colleagues for concurrent bowel emptying problems and chair the local Worcestershire Multidisciplinary team meetings.
Currently I am aware that many patienst have been 'put off' from seeing doctors for pelvic floor problems because of the issues surrounding vaginal mesh. Patients can be reassured that the majority of treatments for prolapse and /or incontinence do not involve mesh. I am a great believer in setting realistic expecations and giving patients time to make decsions about their options without pressurizing them.
I trained in Nottingham, qualifying in 1990. I completed my Urogynaecology training fellowship in Melbourne, Australia. I was appointed to develop Urogynaecology services in Worcestershire in 2000. I was very proud when Worcester became one of the first units in the UK tio be externally accredited for its level of service, clinical outcomes and safety in 2010.
