Mr Oliver Stokes

Oliver trained at University College London Medical School, graduating in 2001. He completed his Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery higher surgical training in London.

Prior to his appointment as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust he undertook 3 spine fellowships including complex spine fellowships at the University of Hong Kong and at the Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery, Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. He has a specialist interest in Complex Spine Surgery and Scoliosis Surgery.

Mr Stokes has expertise in all areas of orthopaedic spinal surgery. He believes that spinal surgical intervention should only be undertaken if non-operative treatments have been exhausted. He is experienced in the delivery of spinal injections to all areas of the spine, including the neck and he works closely with skilled physiotherapists and pain doctors to deliver joined-up multi-disciplinary care.

Oliver is the clinical lead at Exeter Spine Unit and he was previously the Peninsula Spine Network Clinical Lead. He is the co-director of the Exeter Clinical Spine Fellowship and the director of the Exeter Spinal Research Scholarship. He has published over 40 articles and given numerous invited lectures.
