Dr Raj graduated from St George's medical school in London and went on to complete comprehensive general medical training at Frimley Park, Worthing and The Royal Marsden Hospitals leading to attainment of MRCP in 1999. He then worked within the rheumatology department at the Wrightington Hospital which is regarded as a worldwide Centre of Excellence in the treatment of musculo-skeletal disease.
In 2000 he undertook specialist training in rheumatology in the mid Trent region. During his time on the mid Trent rotation he completed a Masters degree in clinical education and obtained his CCST in 2004. He then became a clinical fellow at Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and completed a DM, again in clinical education.
Dr Raj was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist in 2006 at the Royal Derby Hospital and served as the Head of the Rheumatology department. He provides a general rheumatology service on the NHS at both the Royal Derby hospital and the Florence Nightingale community hospital.
As a special interest he has developed a musculoskeletal ultrasound service within the department to aid in the diagnosis of inflammatory joint conditions.
Dr Raj has a keen interest in teaching and is an Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine.
