Dr Kal Parmar is a leading Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine, based in private practice in London and Leicester, dealing with general and specialist areas of sports medicine. A large part of his practice is ultrasound scanning and injections of steroid and non-steroid alternatives as well as the emerging areas of Orthobiologics, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.
Besides, he has an overseas practice in Bermuda where he consults once every 6 weeks seeing a range of patients from recreational to Olympic Athletes and Professional Footballers. He is also Medical Advisor to Leicester Tigers Rugby Union Club, having previously been Club Doctor for 10 years.
History:
Dr Kal Parmar qualified from Birmingham University in 1995 and completed basic surgical training in London and Birmingham before undergoing advanced specialist training in Sports Medicine in Australia. This was based at the Sydney Academy of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Relocation back to the UK was in 2006 where he took up a 2-year position of Club Doctor and Head of Medical Services at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. In 2009, he became Lead Sports Physician, Club Doctor and Governance Advisor to Leicester Tigers Rugby Union Club – positions he held for 10 years before becoming Medical Advisor to the Club.
Kal has been involved in treating sports and musculoskeletal related injury and illness since 2002. He has worked in Sports from grassroots through to National Teams, having been on tour with the Australian Men's and Women's Hockey teams (Kookaburras and Hockeyroos) as well as Australian National Football teams. Other team doctor roles include Australian Men's Senior Cricket Team for the 2009 Ashes and One Day International Series; The Wallabies Senior Men's Rugby Union Team in 2008; The Brumbies Rugby Union and Sydney Swans AFL teams. Tournament events include The Sydney International Tennis tournament; the 2009 World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia; 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Outside of Medicine, he enjoys keeping fit by doing regular hot yoga practice and swimming. He is trained in Krav Maga self-defence, is an experienced Scuba Diver and manages to find time for an occasional game of golf. Apart from that, he has a love of Italian Red wines and travels widely.
