Professor Michael Henein is a highly experienced Cardiologist, with expertise in Cardiac CT/MRI and General Cardiology. He currently serves as a Professor of Cardiology at the Umeå Heart Centre, Umeå University in Sweden, and also as a Professor of Cardiology at Canterbury Christ Church University, Kent, UK.
Previously, he worked as a Consultant in Cardiology and Echocardiography, leading the Echocardiography Department at the Royal Brompton Hospital and completing a five-year Clinical Senior Lectureship at Imperial College London. Professor Henein has also established an MSc course in Cardiology at Canterbury Christ Church University and has tutored and graduated 100 students with quality MSc theses.
Professor Henein's research interests include coronary calcification, heart failure, and valvular heart disease, and his team is currently working on a number of research projects related to these areas. He has supervised 19 completed PhD theses and is currently supervising five others, with most students from abroad. Professor Henein has published over 350 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has written and edited three textbooks and many chapters, including two in the Oxford Textbook of Medicine on pericardial diseases and valvular heart diseases.
In addition to his academic and research achievements, Professor Henein is also the Founder and Editor in Chief of the International Cardiovascular Forum Journal and a Guest Editor for the International Journal of Molecular Sciences and the Journal of Diagnostics. He aspires to supervise more international PhD students to establish strong academic collaboration with other universities worldwide.

I, with my daughter Alison to help with hearing problems, saw Professor Henein twice in two days and was most impressed with his knowledge and understanding of my heart problem. He did tests to confirm what he thought and we got feedback straight away, putting us at ease and explaining the situation so we could understand the technical side. Amazed, after the initial meeting and test done, he was able to fit me into his busy schedule for more tests the following day. We were most impressed with him and his gentle bed-side manor. Very very glad to meet him and find out what he proposed for immediate treatment. A very big thank you to Professor Michael Henein.

Prof. Henhein is an exceptional doctor: very professional and capable. But he has a quality that most doctor should have: he pays attention to the patient. This is very important especially for older patients, like me, who need to be reassured. He knows how to listen
